Biography

Master Steven Soo is a highly respected Taekwondo Master, instructor, and sports administrator with over four decades of dedication to the art of Taekwon-Do. Since beginning his training in 1986, he has remained committed to developing martial artists, promoting technical excellence, and advancing the growth of Global Taekwon-Do throughout Malaysia.

He commenced his Taekwondo journey under Grand Master Keith Tan before continuing his lifelong martial arts development under Grand Master Lee Hok Heng. Through years of disciplined training, continuous learning, and service to the martial arts community, he attained the rank of 7th Degree Black Belt (Master) under the Global Taekwon-Do Federation (GTF).

Leadership & Service

Master Steven has held numerous leadership appointments within the Taekwondo fraternity. He has served as President of Persatuan Taekwon-Do Negeri Selangor (GTF), Treasurer General of Pan-Malaysia Global Taekwon-Do Federation (PGTF), President and Chief Instructor of Persatuan Pan-Malaysia Global Taekwon-Do Negeri Melaka (PGTF), President and Chief Instructor of Synergy Taekwon-Do Academy, President and Chief Instructor of Persatuan Pan-Malaysia Global Taekwon-Do Daerah Petaling Jaya (PGTF), and currently serves as an Executive Committee Member , Deputy President of the Pan-Malaysia Global Taekwon-Do Federation (PGTF). Throughout his service, he has played a pivotal role in organizational development, instructor education, athlete development, grading standards, tournament governance, and strategic planning.

Teaching & International Contributions

As a Master Instructor, he has more than 30 years of teaching experience across schools, universities, community clubs, and corporate organizations. His philosophy extends beyond technical instruction, emphasizing discipline, integrity, respect, humility, perseverance, leadership, and lifelong learning. Many of his students have progressed to become instructors, officials, and national-level competitors.

Master Steven has contributed extensively to the organization of national and international Taekwondo events, serving in various capacities including Organizing Chairman, Technical Chairman, Chief Umpire, Team Manager, Tournament Official, and Instructor. His competition experience includes multiple medal-winning performances in both sparring and patterns, demonstrating his technical excellence and competitive spirit throughout his martial arts journey. Beyond his personal achievements, his organizational contributions have played a significant role in elevating the standards of Taekwondo competitions, instructor education, athlete development, and technical officiating in Malaysia. Through his dedication to excellence, he continues to mentor instructors, develop future champions, and strengthen the professionalism and governance of the Malaysian Taekwondo community.

Vision & Development

In recent years, he has been actively involved in expanding PGTF’s presence nationwide, promoting instructor certification programmes, supporting school-based Taekwondo development, and strengthening collaborations with government agencies, educational institutions, and international Taekwondo organizations. His vision is to establish PGTF as one of the leading organizations in the region through professionalism, technical excellence, and strong ethical values.

Education & Professional Background

In addition to his distinguished martial arts career, Master Steven is an accomplished business leader and lifelong learner. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Computing from Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Universiti Malaya-Wales (UMW). He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), where his research focuses on strategic leadership, organizational transformation, and business performance. Combining academic excellence with over 25 years of executive leadership experience, Master Steven integrates strategic management principles with the core values of Taekwon-Do to inspire excellence in leadership, personal development, and community service.
